- The Templar Papal Castle shares with the Vatican and the Palace of the Popes of Avignon the privilege of being one of only three Papal seats to have existed in history. It has been designated a national monument and is a major tourist and cultural attraction, being the second most visited monument in Spain, behind La Alhambra in Granada.
- The Church of the Virgen del Socorro has gothic elements from the 15th century alongside Romanic architecture. - The hermitage of “La Mare de Déu d’Ermitana”, next to the castle, houses the image of the patron of the town.
-
El Museo del Mar, located in “El Baluarte del Principe”,
pays tribute to the seafaring tradition of the people of Peñiscola.
It is divided into three areas: history, fishing and sealife. In
this museum you will see scale models of ships, anchors, amphoras,
hulls made of bronze, graphic documents, audiovisual media and three
aquariums containing Mediterranean species.
-
La Sierra de Irta, recently protected as an environmentally
important area, the Sierra de Irta is a mountain range with a
maximum height of 573m and a 15 km coastline. It is possible to go
horse riding or mountain biking here, or to drive a quad or walk on
foot along the signposted paths of the range. Here, you can also
visit the hermitage of San Antonio (16th Century), a site that also
affords spectacular views.
