What to visit

Morella, situated 80km from
Peñiscola in the interior of the province of Castellón, is a place
you must visit during your holidays.

When you arrive by the N-232, you will be left speechless by the
spectacular view of the walled town, surrounded by the rocky sides
of a steep mountain on whose summit stands the ruins of a castle
very similar to the one in Peñiscola.
Its 2500m of walls from the 14th century surround a town named in
1965 as being of particular historical and artistic interest. You
can walk through its narrow medieval streets and admire its
buildings, look around the ruins of the castle and visit the
wonderful church of Santa María.
This town is famous for its craftsmanship, especially its handmade
fabrics, which have been used for many years to keep warm during the
cold winters.

Its gastronomy is also worthy of special mention: you can eat a
local, tasty and varied meal characteristic of a town located at
1,000 m above sea level. Typical meals include “la sopa morellana”,
lamb stuffed with truffles, “la carn de bou metxà” and “conill amb
vaquetes”. We also shouldn’t forget its famous cured hams, smoked
meats and sausages and its desserts like “els flaons” (cakes made
with cottage cheese) and “la collà” (cheese tart).
